Meet The Owner
Dr. Rachel Sims
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here!
Outside of being a Licensed Professional Counselor, I am a born and raised Texan, who holds a special place for BBQ and Dr. Pepper. Go Cowboys! I have my Doctoral Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University. I received a Masters & Bachelor's in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University- Kingsville. The National Board of Certified Counselors has recognized me for upholding the highest standards in counseling practices. I have more than 10 years of experience working with a range of people experiencing anxiety, relationship issues, self-love, career and life transitions, and family conflict. I believe in creating skills for effective coping mechanisms for overall wellness.
For me, therapy has been a life-shifting experience, along with other self-care practices I enjoy. I enjoy exercise, breathwork, holistic plant medicine, hosting retreats, grounding in nature, and spending time with animals. In my spare time, you can find me deep diving into a foreign culture or on a flight visiting other countries, 25 and counting!
From denial to acceptance, I help my clients discover their strengths, heal their past wounds, overcome the trauma and move on with a greater understanding and indifference with the change in their lives. Embarking on my journey as an attachment style specialist was a natural evolution of my lifelong fascination with human behavior and relationships. I became engrossed in the study of attachment theory due to its potential to reveal profound insights into the dynamics of love and intimacy. My desire to provide people with a roadmap for understanding their relational patterns and overcoming barriers to intimacy led me to specialize in this modality. Through evidence-based techniques and compassionate guidance, I empower clients to cultivate secure attachments and build the fulfilling connections they deserve. My dedication to this work stems from a deep-seated belief in the power of healing attachment wounds to transform lives.
My Dissertation “An Investigation of the Impacts of Locus of Control on Marital Satisfaction Among Wives of Combat Veterans with PTSD in the U.S.” helped fill a large gap in research with the mutual goal of many students in the field to make an impact on the Veterans Affairs office.
We all wanted to start a program to support military wives whose husbands return from service with PTSD.
This topic was personal to me as a person close to me at the time just returned from overseas after 10 years of service. Many students had the same intention to create change within the VA and so with different approaches, data, and methodologies, to prove our mission our answers were heard and now a program is being formed to help wives now within the VA system.
One voice is loud, but many can move mountains.

At Uncomplicated Therapy we have chosen not to be paired with insurance companies. It helps us retain the autonomy we need to provide you with an excellent experience. Insurance companies place limitations on therapists about the length of sessions, covered diagnoses, and covered treatments. Insurance companies also require therapists to spend valuable time providing documentation to justify their therapy, including information about your diagnosis, treatment goals, and progress. We would rather provide a more confidential process and use that valuable time to make sure we are giving you the attention and excellent service you deserve. We provide you with an invoice (also known as a “superbill”) at the end of every month, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Usually, you pay the full fee upfront and get a percentage of it back, but that varies from plan to plan. We find that this balance usually works well with clients.

Many people feel limited by the choices available through their insurance, so they choose to pay out-of-pocket. Many of our clients are willing to self-pay because they received a referral to Uncomplicated Therapy from a trusted source who knows the quality of our service. Some clients self-pay because they feel better that information about their diagnosis and treatment is not being reported back to their insurance company and no outside company will be asking questions about their treatment. We can provide a super bill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement or a lower deductible which can help your insurance plan long term.
-
I understand that Uncomplicated Therapy may be expensive for many. That's why I have a limited number of spots available for those needing a reduced rate. If you wish to apply for that, please get in touch, and we can discuss it!

Uncomplicated Therapy does offer longer, more intensive counseling sessions for clients who wish to front-load or get a head start on their treatment upon request. Sessions can be extended beyond the typical 45-50 minute session (Normal Rates: $150.00-$175.00) in multiple ways:(90 minute sessions – $225.00 & 120 minute sessions - $300.00) Contact us for more information.

Therapy is different for everyone. What we’ve found is that most of our clients only need therapy for a few months in order to get a good handle on their concerns and be able to thrive on their own. This means that 10 sessions or maybe just a few more could help you to improve your emotional and relational state for many years to come. Some clients need more sessions than that, some less, but we promise to maintain the utmost integrity in creating a plan with you and helping you to get going in the right direction as efficiently and as effectively as possible.
-
This is likely the most frequently asked question that we receive at Uncomplicated Therapy. In short, we believe it could be. Counseling is a highly personal, very specific thing between therapist and client(s) in which the client receives assistance determining their needs, goals, strengths, and abilities in order to improve their lives and the lives of those around them. Every individual seeks therapy for different reasons according to their own story. We believe that anyone at any time in their lives could face concerns that they are not sure what to do with and need to seek assistance from a counselor. And that’s okay.

There are 52 weeks in a year. You could use 1-2 hours a week to overall change your life. Homework is a way to bridge the gap between sessions, solidify new information and connect you with resources to help you meet your goals. Therapy is an investment in you and your therapist’s time. It is important to give yourself permission to focus on this time of self-improvement.

After filling out the contact form you will be added to the Simple Practice Program and receive an email with all documents and instructions about how to create your own Therapy Portal. You can also download Simple Program app on your iPhone or Android in the app store as well. You will schedule all your appointments, paperwork, meetings, and all assignments through the portal and program so it’s simple and at in your hand at your convenience.
-
You will log into client portal in your Simple Practice App either on computer or phone and you will get ready for your session. I would have sent you instructions for your Attachment Quiz requirement on this website and just have your results handy. The first session is about gathering history and getting to know one another to determine if you and your therapist are a good fit. The best determination of success in therapy isn’t necessarily the therapist’s skills, but the relationship you have with your therapist.
-
We keep a credit card on file with our medical record system, Simple Practice. Your card will be charged at the end of the therapy session for your copay or payment. We will send you an email with what to expect to pay prior to your first session.
-
I understand that you may have emergency engagements coming up and may need to cancel or reschedule your appointment; however, please understand that it would also mean the missed time for someone else who may be in an equally pressing or worse need of help. Therefore, I request that if you must cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide us with as much notice as possible. If you reschedule or cancel less than 24 hours before your session, the card we have on your file will be charged for the full session fee.

We understand that the information you share in counseling can be very personal. All clients will be presented with an Authorization for Release of Confidential Information. We will only disclose your confidential information to those you’ve identified on that form, unless such release is otherwise authorized or required by law. For example, the law may require your counselor to disclose confidential information to a legal authority if there is reason to believe that a child has been abused or neglected, or if you appear to be in danger of harming yourself or others.
